Asked once, politely
The tip step appears once, at the moment of paying, with three sensible amounts and a clear No thanks. Nobody is nagged and nobody is embarrassed. Gifts are entirely the client's idea, started from a card on their portal home.
Kept separate from the books
A tip is never a line on an invoice. It is recorded on its own, shown against the invoice it came with, and totalled on Money as Tips this month. Your invoice income and your tax figures stay clean.
